Here
at Moonlitt Kennels, our dogs are our extended family - sharing
our lives - first and foremost, and being show dogs when they take
time off from the couch! We have been blessed over the years
to have shown dogs in many breeds to Top Dog Awards as well as
multiple Best in Show & Best In Specialty Show Wins.
Although we have achieved success in the show ring, our greatest
memories have been the training, and day to day living with the
dogs we have chosen to share our lives with.
Over the years of being involved in dogs, we have come to expect
certain questions. This has prompted us to put together a profile
and frequently asked question sheet regarding who we are.
Background information: Ron and I (Heather)
have lived in Saskatoon, all our lives, but have traveled
extensively across Canada and parts of USA. Ron has his
Agriculture Diploma in Animal Husbandry along with a background in
Accounting and Drafting. I have a background in Animal
Behavior as well as for Personal Development Counseling, Art, and
Web Design. We live on a mixed farm North West of Saskatoon,
Saskatchewan just minutes from our International Airport. We
share our lives with a variety of critters including sheep,
llamas, goats, ducks and fancy chickens. We have spent all of our lives working with
and around animals in one field or another whether it be work
related or volunteer.
I (Heather) have personally been showing dogs since 1974, and
began my introduction into purebred dogs with a Rough Collie.
Ron and I began dating in 1976 we married in 1980, I had already
dedicated my life to dogs in various disciplines for 7 years
before Ron and I had our first venture into breeding dogs in 1981
when we bred a German import Skye Terrier group winning bitch to
my BIS winning Skye Terrier. That litter resulted in 3
champions 2 of which went on to win groups and are seen in some of
North America’s prominent Skye Terrier Pedigrees. This was
our only Skye Terrier litter. We took a short hiatus from
showing from 1982 to 1988 to concentrate on raising our young
family and in the meantime I continued to train obedience classes
and give private instruction in canine and feline behavior.
In 1986 we purchased our first Belgian Sheepdog who went on to be
#1 Gronendael in Canada & #4 Belgian in 1992. This dog beget
our last remaining Belgian whom was #1 Groenendael & #3 in Canada
in 2000 in addition to many other Breed accomplishments.
Sadly he passed away in 2003, but his line lives on in through
progeny that are located on two continents.
We were first acquainted with Bostons while teaching obedience
classes when we had people that took classes with two of their
Boston girls in 1987. After getting to know these Bostons
through our classes, we knew some day we would have some of these
power packed little dogs that could be charming and intelligent.
We currently exhibit and Breed Boston Terriers Only. We have
always maintained a small number of dogs, which live in our home,
and share our lives. We breed on a very small scale of one
or two litters per year. We also only do a breeding when we
ourselves desire something, and have had many years where we don't
breed at all.
All our puppies or dogs that we have placed in homes are given
every opportunity to reach their full potential whether it is as a
loving companion, or a top show dog. We take great care in
selecting healthy parents of strong character and then use our
animal knowledge in structure and behavior to help new owners
select the right dog for them. This process has allowed our
dogs to be happy and healthy, but also has brought new people into
our lives that share the love of our dogs.
We acknowledge that accomplishments in any field rarely happen
alone. We have always had the support of our family and friends
during the years, and for this we are very grateful.
We are members of the Canadian Kennel Club. Heather is also
the Webmaster for the Boston Terriers of Canada Rescue Network
website and has occasionally written articles for Dogs In Canada
Breedlines.
“Dogs are a Gift! They can be our teachers and our students.
They help to rehabilitate and to heal. They know no
boundaries of Love and give it endlessly without question.”
